CHAMPIONSHIP GAME HIGHLIGHTS

Julie Randall’s 16-foot jump shot with 13.9 seconds left proved to be the difference as Homestead High claimed the Central Coast Section Division II title with a 45-43 win over Leland.
The Mustangs (28-3) led most of the way in the fourth quarter when Leland’s Rebekah Pina drained a three-point shot from the top of the key with 1:25 left in the game. The hoop tied the score at 43-43. The score remained tied until Randall sank the game-winning shot in the paint.
The Chargers (25-3) had three chances to tie the score. Courtney Stern jump shot was no good. She was double-teamed as she shot the ball. Tiffany Scalione got the rebound, but missed the put back. Another shot was no good as time ran out. The win gives the Mustangs their third section title.
Homestead trailed outset of the game. But Julie Speckles, who finished with 18 points, led the Homestead comeback. She scored 10 points in the second quarter, as the Mustangs outscored the Chargers 22-10. Point guard Michelle Wald tallied 10 points and 11 rebounds.
Scalione led Leland with 14 points, including nine in the third quarter, and 15 rebounds. Pina scored all of her 12
points in the second half.
