John Lozano, the State CIF Basketball Rules Interpreter has just completed holding a meeting in both the north and south parts of the state with our basketball officials associations. One of the
major areas of concern for the officials is the enforcement of the
basketball uniforms rule. As you will recall, the sections and the
state have been notifying schools for 3 years now that the uniform
rule would be implemented this school year, so schools had a 3yr.
advance notice. The rule simply states that home teams wear WHITE
and the visiting teams wear a dark uniform. NO MORE Gold, Gray,
etc for the home team – the home team must be in WHITE. This rule
only impacts the VARSITY level because uniforms get passed down.
The enforcement is ONE technical foul per
player who participate – so if home team is in Gold – game starts
with 5 “Ts” and then a new T will be assessed to each new player
that enters the game at the time they enter the game. The Technical
foul is only assessed to a play one time regardless of how many
times they come into and exit the game.
We have told the officials to enforce the rule
and that coaches would only make that mistake one time. We all know
that your office will get immediate phone calls that the school
stating they did not know and that they were not informed of the
rule change – so we wanted to get this on your radar before you
enter your fall playoffs and you get buried. The NFHS web site has
great page with a PDF file and a PowerPoint presentation that you
may want to link on your section web sites. |
