PROPOSED MAJOR FORMAT CHANGES This section contains any proposal that the staff has determined to be a major change in the core format of the CCS Play-offs in this sport. As such, any item listed below will be reviewed as a 1st- reading at the CCS Board of Managers meeting following the Sport Committee meeting. The Board will return the item(s) to the Leagues for review and discussion; the item(s) will be agendized at the next Board meeting for final discussion and action. Section 3. QUALIFYING CRITERIA FOR CCS MEET Teams who qualify for CCS competition are as follows: A. All League Champions; B. Any team which scores 150.00 160.00 or better, counting the top five (5) scores in each event at an official school meet the League Finals, with officially assigned judges verifying the score sheet; C. Individual Qualifiers: 1. Any gymnast, not on a team that qualifies for the Section Tournament, who finishes in the top eight (8) in each event at the League Finals, will advance to the Section Meet. 2. Any other Gymnast in individual events who receives the following minimum score on any of the events during League Finals: VAULT-7.8; BARS-7.8; BEAM-8.0; FLOOR- ; ALL-AROUND-30.0 8.5 VAULT-8.3; BARS-8.4; BEAM-8.4; FLOOR-8.6; ALL-AROUND-33.0. RATIONALE: The changes listed above were discussion items from the Leagues and were overwhelmingly considered to be in the best interest of the sport. The overall sense is that Gymnastics has evolved to a point where the standards need to be raised to increase the quality of the Meet. The Committee also wants to standardize the Individual and Team qualifications as established from the League Finals. The Meet has also grown in length over the years, and with the addition of three (3) new teams next year (a potential increase of 20 to 25 gymnasts), without adjustment, the Meet would increase to over eight (8) hours in duration, and include potentially mediocre performances. This is felt to be a detriment to the top Gymnasts. The Committee feels that the Championships should reflect the best competition, and not be an “all-comers” invitational meet. Example: If these new standards had been utilized this year, one (1) team and 17 individuals would not have participated, and therefore, the length of the Meet would have been reduced by approximately one (1) hour; and no top-scoring Gymnast would have been adversely affected.
