The Central Coast Section inaugurated individual tennis competition for girls.

Singles-Jean Hepner, Sacred Heart Prep, def. Barrie Bulmore, Gunn, 6-3, 6-1.

Doubles-Gayle Schmutz and Monica Shine, Los Altos, def. Deney Rowell and Wendy Wasson, Palo Alto, 7-5, 6-4.

1976

Tennis competition for girls’ teams began as Leland took the first title.

1977

Leland repeated as team champion. Gunn’s Barrie Bulmore won the singles title and teammates Hilary Whiting and Stacy Savides were doubles champions.

Barrie Bulmore of Gunn repeated as singles champion and her school won the team title.

Burlingame took the team championship as the Panthers’ Linda Gates was crowned singles champion.

Doubles-Lindsey Bartlett and Tammy Lindsey, Woodside, def. Tina Lee and Lynne Jensen, Burlingame, 3-6, 6-4, 6-4.

1980

Burlingame’s Trina and Tiffany Lee were doubles champions as the Panthers won again.

Doubles-Trina Lee and Tiffany Lee, Burlingame, def. Stephanie Savides and Kelly Rapp, Gunn, 7-6 (7-5), 6-1.

1981

Palo Alto defeated defending champion Burlingame for the team title.

Singles-Michelle Chapple, Sacred Heart Prep, def. Joanne Lum, Saratoga, 6-2, 6-3.

Doubles-Tiffany Lee and Jennifer Callan, Burlingame, def. Susie Walsh and Laura Carney, St. Francis, 3-6, 6-2, 6-2.

1982

Burlingame players were finalists in both individual events. Monique Javer lost to Lisa Green of Pioneer in singles, but Jennifer Callan and Anna Taver took the doubles crown.

1983

Again, Burlingame furnished finalists in both singles and doubles. The Panthers’ Tiffany Lee was runner-up to Tiffany Silveria of Los Gatos in the singles, but Anna Javer and Jennifer Callan took their second straight doubles title.

Tiffany Silveria of Los Gatos won the singles crown for the second straight time and Leland was repeat champion in the team tournament.

1985

Mountain View’s Iwalani McCalla stopped Tiffany Silveria of Los Gatos in her bid for a third straight singles title, but Leland continued its winning streak in team competition.

1986

Leland continued to win, taking its fourth straight team title. The Chargers’ Debbie and Tracy Matano were doubles champions.

Singles-Serena Wu, Gunn, def. Lisa Matsushima, Del Mar, 7-6 (7-4), 6-1.

Doubles-Debbie Matano and Tracy Matano, Leland, def. Deandra Cassidy and Melissa Minkin, Gunn, 6-2, 6-2.

1987

Caroline Stassen and Denis Aptekar of Gunn won the doubles tournament and the Titans also took the team title.

Singles-Leslie O’Keefe, San Mateo, def. Lisa Layton, Aragon, 6-4, 6-2.

Doubles-Caroline Stassen and Denise Aptekar, Gunn, def. Tisha Lee and Doniele Ja, Burlingame, 6-4, 6-4.

1988

After a year out of the winner’s circle, Leland won the team title again, defeating San Mateo.

Singles-Tammy Robertson, Gunn, def. Donna Castillon, Monta Vista, 6-2, 6-3.

Doubles-Kim Marx and Lisa Salvatierra, San Mateo, def. Melanda Lau and Laura Spanjian, Aragon, 3-6, 6-2, 7-6 (4).

Team-Leland def. San Mateo, 4-3.

1989

San Mateo turned the tables on Leland, defeating the Chargers for the team championship. Lisa Salvatierra and Kim Marx of San Mateo were repeat winners in the doubles tournament.

1990

After finishing second the season before, Aragon’s Sebrina and Melinda Lau took the doubles title.

1991

Team competition was divided into two divisions for the first time. Los Gatos took Division I and Gunn was the Division II titlist.

Doubles-Beth Brady and Lindy Irvine, Gunn, def. Sebrina Lau and Jennifer Spanjian, Aragon, 3-6, 6-4, 6-3.

Team-Division I-Los Gatos def. St. Francis, 5-2; Division II-Gunn def. Robert Louis Stevenson, 5-2.

1992

Gunn repeated as Division II champions while Homestead took the title in Division I.

Doubles-Rebecca Dirksen and Barbara Chung, Gunn, def. Briana Schaffer and Thais Nye, Robert Louis Stevenson, 6-0, 6-2.

Team-Division I-Homestead def. St. Francis, 6-1; Division II-Gunn def. Robert Louis Stevenson, 7-0.

1993

St. Francis dropped Homestead in Division I and Santa Catalina stopped Gunn’s attempt to win another championship in Division II.

Singles-Nicole Ja, Burlingame, def. Marisa MacLennan, Santa Catalina, 7-5, 6-1.

Doubles-Ferlito and Walgenbach, Santa Catalina, def. Dirksen and Scifres, Gunn, 5-7, 7-5, 6-0.

Team-Division I-St. Francis def. Homestead, 4-3; Division II-Santa Catalina def. Gunn, 4-3.

1994

New champions were crowned in both divisions of the team competition, with Leland taking Division I and St. Francis winning Division II.

1995

Team competition returned to a single tournament after four seasons of division play. Rebecca Dirksen of Gunn took her second straight singles title.

Doubles-Michelle Steingart and Meghan Moore, St. Francis, def. Rachelle Tsang and Jennifer Wong, San Mateo, 6-3, 6-0.

Team-Santa Catalina def. Menlo School, 4-3.

1996

Meghan Moore and Michelle Steingart of St. Francis were repeat winners of the doubles title. The Lancers also won the team championship.

Menlo School won the championship over Leland, gaining revenge for its only loss in 21 matches in September to the Chargers, who finished 23-1.

Menlo School finished the season undefeated (22-0) by handing Santa Catalina its first defeat in 21 starts. Menlo School’s Alison Dohrmann was on the winning doubles team for the second straight year.

Undefeated Menlo School (20-0) won its 63rd straight match to defeat St. Francis for its third consecutive section title.

Menlo School (27-2) won the section title for the fourth consecutive year, defeating Santa Catalina.

Menlo School won its 30th of 31 matches for the year and extended its winning streak to five straight section championships by defeating Pinewood in the final.

Doubles-Ashley Lipton and Tiffany Lee, Menlo School, def. Laura Boskovitch and Megan Kawahara, St. Francis, 6-0, 6-0.

Making its ninth consecutive appearance in the finals, Menlo School regained the champion's crown for the first time since 2002, defeating the defending titlist Monta Vista, 4-3.
