The first Central Coast Section championship brought together 14 league
champions divided into regions. Undefeated Camden (17-0) of the West Valley League was a
slight favorite over Peterson (20-1) of the Santa Clara Valley League.

first-ever title. Mary Hile, Petersons regular season standout, had 13 points and

The winners, who were ranked No. 1 most of the season, outscored Live Oak, 18-4, in the
second quarter to pretty much ice the contest. It was the 26th victory in 27 games for the
Vikings. Stephanie Dumont led the winners with 16, followed by 15 from Jeannie James, who
had played for the winning St. Francis team the previous season. Sherri Boone scored 22
for Live Oak.

remaining. Then the Wildcats hit three straight buckets to ice it. Suzy Meckenstock scored
31 for the winners. Kathy Repanich had 24 for Lynbrook.

and went the length of the court for a basket that clinched the title for the Monarchs.
With Mitty missing free throws, Wilcox had pulled within two points, 42-40, before
Phillips heroics. The latter had 13 points for game scoring honors.

scored 29 points and pulled down 15 rebounds for the winners. Heather McPherson helped
Szukalski dominate the boards with 13 rebounds.
